Camp Shawnee

Christian Appalachian Project - Camp Shawnee is located in the lush, green mountains of Eastern Kentucky, in Floyd County. Each year Shawnee serves children from 15 surrounding counties and the neighboring state of West Virginia. Shawnee has seven weeks of camp for children ages 6-15. When you ask the children what the most enjoyable thing about camp was, you hear answers ranging from swimming, making new friends, or just getting away from home. For many, this is the first time away from their family or the first time getting to go on a fun vacation. Camp Shawnee offers a wide variety of activities such as: hiking, canoeing, arts and crafts, bible study, swimming, camping, fishing, camp fires, sports, paddle boating, outside presentations, and square dancing. Owen Wright, program manager at Shawnee says, "the great success of our camp can be contributed to our teachers doing In-School Presentations in our surrounding schools throughout the school year." This helps get the word out to the children about our summer camp. Camp Shawnee is also utilized by other agencies, CAP programs, environmental educational presentations, churches, and groups for training and retreats throughout the year.
